McLaren Hospital warns of stroke risks, symptoms
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke, and every three and a half minutes someone dies from one, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Those numbers are prompting health officials at McLaren Hospital to warn people about the growing risk of stroke and the importance of recognizing symptoms early.
Medical experts say high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and smoking can all increase the risk of stroke.
Doctors urge people to watch for warning signs including loss of balance, sudden blurred vision, facial drooping or numbness, weakness in one arm and slurred speech.
Health officials say anyone experiencing those symptoms should seek medical attention immediately or call 911.
