LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Better Business Bureau of Michigan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan have announced a partnership aimed at helping protect seniors from fraud and scams.

The partnership will launch a statewide series of “Red Flags of Fraud” educational events designed to help consumers, especially older adults, recognize warning signs of fraud and take steps to protect themselves.

Through the program, the BBB of Michigan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will provide attendees with tools and information to identify common scams and respond to them.

“Fraud doesn’t just impact someone financially, it can take a serious emotional toll as well,” said Lisa Frohnapfel, president and CEO of the BBB of Michigan. “Through this partnership, we’re not only helping people recognize scams, but also providing support and resources for those who have already been affected.”

As part of the events, attendees will also receive information on health-related topics affecting seniors, including fall prevention and wellness tips.

One event will be held at the Delta Township Enrichment Center in Lansing on June 3 from noon to 1 p.m. The event is free to attend.

More information is available on the Better Business Bureau of Michigan’s website.
