5 killed, dozens hospitalized in bus crash on I-95, police say

STAFFORD, Va. (WWBT) – At least five people were killed Friday morning in a multi-vehicle crash involving a bus. Dozens of others were taken to the hospital.

The crash happened around 2:35 a.m. on I-95 south near the 146 mile marker in Stafford County, the Virginia State Police said.

An investigation showed traffic was slowing for an upcoming work zone when a bus did not slow down and hit six vehicles.

Five people died in the vehicles hit by the bus, while 34 people were taken to the hospital – three with serious injuries.

The crash is under investigation and charges are pending.
