State Police are focusing on something they say you should already be doing...moving over on the highway.

The 'Move Over Law' requires drivers to give a lane to emergency vehicles that are parked with their lights flashing.

Between March 2018 and 2019, State Police say over 40 patrol cars have been hit on the side of the road.

The official state law says, "drivers approaching a stationary emergency vehicle displaying flashing lights, including towing and recovery vehicles, traveling in the same direction, to vacate the lane closest if safe and possible to do so, or to slow to a speed safe for weather, road and traffic conditions. The law also includes stationary solid waste collection, utility service, or road maintenance vehicles."

The law went into effect in February of 2019 and if you violate the law and get a ticket, it could mean points on your license and a $400 fine.

The enforcement runs through Sunday.
