United Airlines flight from Chicago diverted after unruly passenger incident

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV/Gray News) - Authorities said an unruly passenger was detained and taken into custody after a United Airlines flight was diverted to Wisconsin Friday night.

The United Airlines flight from Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Minneapolis was diverted to Dane County Regional Airport in Madison due to the apparent unruly passenger.

Law enforcement restrained and handcuffed the passenger, and no other passengers were hurt.

A Dane County Regional Airport spokesperson said the plane landed safely. Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies met the plane, removed the passenger and took the unidentified individual into custody.

Federal authorities are taking over the investigation.

Dane County Regional Airport said flight operations were resuming.
