Michigan lawmakers debate Death with Dignity Act for terminally ill patients
LANSING, Mich. (NEWS 10) -Some Michigan lawmakers are debating whether terminally ill patients should be able to get medical help to end their lives.
House Democrats are pushing the Death with Dignity Act.
It would allow doctors to prescribe life-ending medication to competent adults expected to live less than six months.
Supporters say it gives patients more control with strict safeguards.
Opponents, including some Republicans and Right to Life of Michigan, call it morally wrong.
They warn it could pressure vulnerable patients.
The debate comes 36 years after Michigan’s own “Dr. Death,” Jack Kevorkian, brought national attention to physician-assisted suicide.
