LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - A new case of measles has been reported in Monroe County, marking the eighth case in Michigan this year.

Seven other cases have been identified in Washtenaw County.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is urging families to get vaccinated. Health officials recommend an accelerated first dose of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine for infants ages 6 to 11 months in several counties, including Jackson, Livingston and Lenawee.

The early-dose recommendation runs through May 16. Infants who receive the early dose will still need two additional doses after their first birthday to complete the series.

More information is available on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services website.
