Mason School District reaches $350k settlement in student lawsuit
MASON, Mich. (WILX) - The Mason School District has agreed to pay $350,000 to settle a lawsuit alleging the district failed to protect a student from a classmate who sexually assaulted her.
According to the lawsuit, Mason Public Schools readmitted a male student after an investigation found he had engaged in sexual contact and inappropriately touched a female classmate on at least two occasions during the 2022 school year at Mason Middle School.
The girl’s parents argued that his return to school violated district policy, Title IX regulations, and an active personal protection order.
All parties have now agreed to a settlement resolving all claims. The $350,000 settlement includes attorney fees, costs, and any applicable liens. The settlement will be paid by the school district’s insurance company.
