Suspect arrested, Detroit officer hospitalized after being shot in the hand

DETROIT, Mich. (WILX) - A Detroit Police officer was shot in the hand and taken to a hospital after chasing a suspect through the city’s westside Wednesday.
Detroit police said in a press conference that they were called out to the 12000 block of Linwood Street on Detroit’s westside for a man jumping on multiple cars in his underwear. This was just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Officials said the man had already left when police arrived.
Later, at 10 a.m., a Detroit police officer saw the man reported earlier at a gas station. The man then ran off again, leading the officer to chase him.
The chase lasted until they reached a house on Highland Street, where police said the man was resisting arrest. Then, Detroit police said the man allegedly got a hold of the officer’s gun and shot the officer in the hand. Police said the man tried to shoot him again when the gun jammed.
The man ran away from the officer with the gun. Police then found the man and arrested the man a few blocks away from the shooting. The suspect was not injured but was sent to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
The officer who was shot in the hand was taken to the hospital and is said to make a full recovery.
