Suspect arrested, sheriff’s deputy injured after mail theft incident in Delhi Township

DELHI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) - A sheriff’s deputy was injured, and a man was arrested early Tuesday after a mail theft incident in Delhi Township.

At 4 a.m. on Sept. 17, deputies from the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling the neighborhood in the area of Featherstone Drive and Kinglet Court when they found a suspicious man in the area. Police said the man then began to run away from the scene when deputies caught and arrested him after a brief struggle.

Officials determined that the man was taking mail from mailboxes in the neighborhood. The suspect was a 29-year-old Eaton Rapids man who was arrested and placed behind bars.

Deputies said the investigation will be turned over to the Ingham County Prosecutors Office for review and possible charges.

Meanwhile, an Ingham County Sheriff’s Deputy was taken to a local hospital for a shoulder injury. No one else was injured.
