Two arrested after shots fired incident and police chase through Jackson County

LEONI TWP., Mich. (WILX)—Two people are behind bars after a shots-fired incident led to a police chase through Jackson County on Friday.

Officials from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said at 3:15 a.m. Friday, bail bondspersons from Leo’s Bail Bonds attempted to locate an offender violating his bond. Police said the man on bond was found in their car with another person on the 6800 block of Sargent Road.

Police said the bondspersons then attempted to follow the car before people from the vehicle shot at them.

Blackman Township police joined the chase when they found the vehicle driving southbound on Race Rd near I-94. The people then drove from the officers at high speeds.

Officials said the chase ended on Coy Drive in Glass Lake Township when the vehicle struck a Michigan State Police patrol car. The driver, a 41-year-old man who tried to run away on foot but was arrested, and a 25-year-old man who stayed in the car were also arrested.

A gun was found in the car.

Officials said charges are being pursued against the driver on Fleeing and Eluding and weapon offenses, along with the passenger for weapons charges.

No one was injured, and police said the suspects and police never shot at eachother.
