University of Michigan Health Sparrow unveils new branding in Lansing
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - University of Michigan Health Sparrow Lansing unveiled its new branding and signage on Wednesday.
The partnership between the university and the health system was announced nearly one year ago. Now, we’re learning more details about expansions and increased specialty care in Mid-Michigan.
Speakers at the event emphasized the progress made in the year since UM Health-Sparrow joined Michigan Medicine.
“The inclusion of Sparrow and UM Health-West are keys to our statewide clinical network, and our goal of providing the best local care for our communities that we possibly can,” said Marschall Runge, M.D., CEO of Michigan Medicine and dean of the University of Michigan Medical School.
They’re working to increase and improve neurosurgical and cardiovascular services, clinical trials, and complex cancer care among other things.
Officials said the upcoming change will be positive for many patients in the area. According to Margaret Dimond, Regional President of the University of Michigan Health, this will provide patients with more options in Mid-Michigan.
“You’ll be seeing new programs. You’ll be seeing some new building plans as well as recruitment of new Specialists and primary care physicians and nurses and other healthcare providers,” said Dimond. “Mid-Michigan has a lot, a huge percentage, of health disparities. So we wanna attack that in a positive way. We can bring care to Mid-Michigan that we couldn’t before. (Before) people would have to travel to either Brighton or Ann Arbor.”
Dimond added they’ll be taking the best practices from one of the top research institutions in the state and country.
“Our ultimate goal is to decrease mortality in this community and improve health in this community. We now have the backing, intellectual, physical, all the kind of resources you need to finally get there,” said Chandu Vemuri, the Chief Medical Officer at the Lansing Location.
Additionally, the partnership is bringing new technology to Mid-Michigan, thanks to the engineering and computer science programs at U of M. They’re successfully using artificial intelligence to improve outcomes and patient care.
“We have one of the top engineering schools in the nation, top computer sciences. It’s possible to predict maybe as far as three hours earlier, a person who may need ICU care,” said Runge.
Combing resources to achieve their new slogan, “Together, more is possible.”
The University of Michigan Health Sparrow is also focusing on capital projects, rebuilding some areas in Mid-Michigan. They recently announced a project to rehab empty homes on Lansing’s east side.
