LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - University of Michigan Health-Sparrow has announced plans to outsource its environmental and food and nutrition services at its Lansing hospital.

In a statement, the hospital said it will partner with two national companies, Xanitos and TouchPoint Support Services, to manage Environmental Services and Food and Nutrition Services, respectively, at UM Health-Sparrow Lansing.

Hospital officials said salaried leaders and current Environmental Services and Food and Nutrition Services employees will have the opportunity to transition from UM Health-Sparrow to working for Xanitos and TouchPoint in the coming months. It is currently unknown how many jobs will be impacted.

According to the hospital, Xanitos already provides environmental services at UM Health-West, while Unidine, a sister company of TouchPoint, has managed food services there for several years.

The hospital said the companies’ size, expertise and broad client base allow them to secure more competitive pricing on goods and services while bringing industry-leading practices to environmental and culinary operations.

“We believe this will not only improve service to our patients but protect the resources of our health system so we can continue to provide care in the Lansing area for another 130 years,” the hospital said in a statement.
