LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Eaton Regional Education Service Agency and the Clinton County Regional Educational Service Agency faced off Thursday in a law enforcement challenge designed to give students a hands-on look at policing careers.

Students competed in physical fitness events including push-ups, vertical jumps and sit-ups, along with other exercises. They also participated in scenario-based training such as a mock traffic stop.

Organizers say the program is intended to expose students to both the physical and procedural demands of law enforcement, including less appealing aspects of the job.

“Don’t really want to sugarcoat stuff. You know, there’s going to be stuff you don’t want to see, but it’s just all part of the thing and it’s something you’ve got to work through,” said Gabriel Albrecht, a junior at Grand Ledge Public Schools.

In addition to physical training, students learned how to file police reports and remain calm in high-stress situations.
