Jonesville teen killed, 2 others injured in Hillsdale Co. crash
JONESVILLE, Mich. (WILX) - A Hillsdale County teenager lost their life in a crash Monday night, Homer Community Schools officials said in a statement.
On Monday, just after 7 p.m., Michigan State Troopers were sent to Genesee Road and Bunn Road in Jonesville for reports of a single-car crash.
There, troopers found a 2006 Chevy Silverado that had crashed into a tree stump. The vehicle had been driven by a 16-year-old Litchfield boy with two other teenage passengers.
None of the teens were wearing seatbelts, resulting in the passengers being ejected from the truck.
One passenger, an 18-year-old from Jonesville, was seriously hurt. The teen was taken to the hospital, but he would not survive.
The other two teens, both 16, had minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Troopers do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors.
Troopers believe the truck had been eastbound on Gennessee Road when the driver lost control on a curve, striking the stump.
All three teens were students at Homer Community Schools. Counselors will be available at Homer schools for those in grief, the district stated Tuesday morning.
Homer students and families affected by the tragedy are encouraged to contact the school for counseling services at 517-568-4464.
