LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The attorney who represented an accused “fake elector” has announced his run for the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.

He is the first Republican to announce their candidacy.

Attorney Kevin Kijewski practices out of Birmingham, Michigan. He announced his run as a Republican during the Lapeer County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner.

Kijewski is known for representing Clifford Frost, a man accused of acting as a “fake elector” for President Donald Trump after his loss in 2020.

The “fake electors” were accused of submitting fraudulent certificates of ascertainment falsely claiming Donald Trump had won the 2020 election in several battleground states, attempting to overturn Joe Biden’s victory.

In his announcement, Kijewski called for an end to the prosecution of the fake electors and the legal actions against President Trump.

Kijewski has a law degree from Michigan State University and a Master of Education from the University of Notre Dame.

“Michigan deserves an Attorney General who roots out corruption, prosecutes crime, and makes sure every legal vote counts,” said Kijewski.

Previously, U.S. Attorney Mark Totten announced his candidacy as a Democrat.
