Gone Phishing: Owosso warns of autopay scam
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - City leaders in Owosso say if you get this email it was not from them. It could be a possible phishing scam.
The city says its received calls about emails pretending to be from the city regarding auto-pay.
City officials say they will never ask for your bank account information through an email. The possible scam may look like this:

Here are some tips to avoid a phishing scam:
If you get a strange text link, do not click it.
If it’s a phone call, call back the number of the place you are suspicious of. Go out to their actual number and call them with your concerns.
If it comes in the form of an email, look at the sender’s address. It should be professional, not a Gmail account or a name that sounds like someone who set up their AOL account while in middle school in the 90s.
You’ve got mail. Be cautious there too. Always call a number for the actual company, not what a flyer or letter says.
