UM Health-Sparrow president stepping down
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Friday University of Michigan-Health Sparrow announced Denny Martin, D.O., is stepping down from his position as president.
UM-Health Sparrow says he will focus on his clinical patients over the coming weeks, before his last day on Jan. 10, 2025.
News 10 reached out to UM-Health Sparrow for comment and received the following statement:
“We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Martin for his exceptional leadership, dedication to patient care, and commitment to our community. We wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.”
Martin helped treat patients following the Feb. 13, 2023 mass shooting at Michigan State University. He also helped steer the hospital through the transition to becoming part of the UM-Health system last year.
Dr. Denny Martin will leave the hospital on January 10. Margaret Dimond, who serves as the regional president for University of Michigan Health System, will take over Martin’s responsibilities on an interim basis.
“Margaret and her team will prioritize delivering high-quality patient care while addressing the hospital’s financial challenges,” the statement said.
Nurses at UM Health-Sparrow Lansing recently approved a strike authorization vote at the hospital. No strike date has been set and the two sides are expected to resume negotiations on January 2.
