The MSU Board of Trustees has approved construction of an $85 million dollar medical building in Grand Rapids.
It will go up where the Old Grand Rapids Press building is, which is getting knocked down next month.
MSU hopes to open the new facility in 2017.
In regards to criticism of the building's location in Grand Rapids over East Lansing, the university's president, Lou Anna K Simon said, "people tend to think about this as mutually exclusive, when it really isn't at one community or another."
She said, "It's part of a community based medical school and a university committed to the entire footprint of Michigan."
