NEW YORK (AP) -- James Paxton will start the New York Yankees' AL Division Series opener against the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.

The 30-year-old left-hander in his first season with the Yankees is 15-6 with a 3.82 ERA. He will be followed by Masahiro Tanaka for Game 2 on Saturday and Luis Severino for Game 3 at Minnesota on Monday.

Manager Aaron Boone says 39-year-old left-hander CC Sabathia (suh-BATH'-ee-uh) will not be included on the roster because of a sore pitching shoulder.

Jose Berrios (beh-REE'-ohs) will start Game 1 for Minnesota. Berrios was 14-8 with a 3.68 ERA and 195 strikeouts in 200 1/3 innings.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli did not announce a Game 2 starter. Right-hander Jake Odorizzi (oh-dah-REE'-zee) is the most likely candidate.
