Tigers Win In Home Opener

The Detroit Tigers made it three straight victories Thursday, capturing their home opener from the Kansas City Royals 5-4. Christin Stewart's 7th inning sacrifice fly gave the Tigers a 5-3 lead before Alex Gordon hit a solo homer for the Royals in the 8th inning to close the gap to one run. Shane Greene pitched a scoreless ninth and the Tigers' season record improved to 5-3. They are now 1/2 game behind the division leading Minnesota Twins.
