EAST LANSING -- Michigan State junior forward Taro Hirose has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Hirose had four points, including two goals and two assists, in a win and tie vs. Wisconsin last weekend.

Hirose, who leads the NCAA in both points (46) and assists (31), scored and added the primary assists on the Spartans’ second and third goals in the 4-1 win. The following night, Hirose extended his career best point streak to eight games by scoring his 15th goal of the season, which is tied for seventh most nationally.

It’s the fourth time this season Hirose has earned one of the conference’s weekly honors and it’s his second in the last two weeks.

Hirose and the Spartans take on Michigan this weekend as the teams will meet Friday in Ann Arbor and then on Saturday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
