EAST LANSING – The Michigan State hockey program has released its schedule for the upcoming 2019-20 season. The Spartans’ 34-game regular-season slate will begin Oct. 11-12 at Northern Michigan, while MSU’s first home series will be Nov. 1-2 against Cornell. Times and TV designations will be announced closer to the start of the season.
MSU’s season-opening series at Northern Michigan will be the Spartans first trip to Marquette since November 2011.
Following the Spartans’ opening weekend at NMU, Michigan State will host the U.S. National Team Development Program U-18 team in an exhibition on Friday, Oct. 18.
For the first time since the 1999-00 season-opener, the Spartans will travel to Colorado College to take on the Tigers, Oct. 25-26, at Broadmoor World Arena.
Michigan State’s series against Cornell on Nov. 1-2 will be its latest home-opening set at Munn Ice Arena since the 2005-06 season. 2019 Ivy League and ECAC co-champion Cornell is one of two teams on the on the Spartans’ non-conference schedule that made last year’s NCAA Tournament. MSU swept the Big Red on the road last season.
The 24-game Big Ten schedule begins Nov. 8-9 at Penn State. The home-and-home series with Michigan follows on Nov. 15-16 with Saturday’s game taking place at Munn. It will be the first of two meetings between the Spartans and Wolverines in East Lansing this season.
MSU hosts last year’s conference champion, Notre Dame, Nov. 22-23, and then travels to Ohio State on Saturday and Sunday over Thanksgiving weekend to take on the Buckeyes, Nov. 30 – Dec. 1.
The Spartans will play four home games in December, beginning with Wisconsin (Dec. 6-7). The following Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 14-15), MSU will host Arizona State.
The 55th annual Great Lakes Invitational will be played at Little Caesars Arena with the dates to be announced later in July.
MSU starts the new calendar year by hosting Minnesota, Jan. 10-11. After a trip to Wisconsin, Jan. 17-18, the Spartans meet Penn State at Munn, Jan. 24-25.
Following a bye-weekend, the Spartans travel to Minnesota, Feb. 7-8. The Spartans and Wolverines square off for the second time at Munn on Feb. 14 and will meet again three days later on Monday, Feb. 17 at Little Caesars Arena in the Duel in the D.
The final regular-season home series will be against Ohio State, Feb. 21-22, while MSU will close the regular season at Notre Dame, Feb. 28-29.
The Big Ten Tournament will begin with the best-of-three quarterfinal series, March 6-8, as the second-, third- and fourth-seeded teams will each host a series. The semifinals will be March 14 and the championship game on March 21, all played at campuses of the higher-seeded teams.
