The NBA season begins tonight with the Celtics hosting Philadelphia while the Warriors welcome Oklahoma City, as Golden State opens its defense of two straight NBA titles.
Most teams don't open their season until tomorrow. And LeBron James won't play his first regular-season game as a Laker until Thursday, when Los Angeles visits Portland. The Trail Blazers have won 17 consecutive home openers, a streak that began in October 2001 -- two years before James made his NBA debut.
The San Antonio Spurs are hoping the season will bring a 22nd straight playoff appearance -- equaling the NBA record. But the Spurs have been decimated by injuries in their backcourt during the preseason, after losing Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili in the offseason.
