LANSING, Mi It was a very busy Saturday in sports and that included five local high school football teams looking to continue their already fantastic seasons.
In eight man football the Morrice Orioles captured the Division 1 State Championship with a 44-16 win over Pickford. The Panthers from Pickford scored first in this one but Morrice's offense proved to be too much. The Orioles finish the season undefeated at (13-0).
Three local teams in 11-man football punched their ticket to Ford Field on Saturday. Portland will play for the division five state championship after defeating Marine City 35-14 at Howell High School. Portland scored 21 unanswered to finish the game. The Jackson Lumen Christi Titans are also headed to Ford Field. The Titans took down the Montrose Rams 42-20 at Novi High School. Jackson Lumen Christi is seeking their third consecutive state title in division six. The Reading Rangers also punched their ticket to Ford Field with a 38-0 drubbing of Holton in the semifinal in division eight. The Rangers are making their first trip to Ford Field in school history and will look to finish off a perfect season as they will face Breckenridge on Friday.
DeWitt and Williamston on the other hand saw their seasons come to an end Saturday. The DeWitt Panthers fell to Detroit King 34-21. It was the Panthers first loss of the season as they finish (12-1). Williamston fell to Chelsea 38-13 in a division four semifinal. The Hornets finish the season (10-3), which is their best record since 2010 (12-2).
