LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -- A historic season for the Michigan State Men's Soccer Team has concluded after a 5-1 loss to Akron in the College Cup semifinals Friday night in Santa Barbara, California.

Akron opened the game scoring four unanswered goals before MSU scored off a corner kick. Patrick Nielsen headed it in with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game.

Akron beat MSU twice this season, with a 2-1 victory in East Lansing back on October 9th. The Zips will now move on to take on the winner of Maryland and Indiana's semifinal on Sunday for the national title.

Michigan State finishes the 2018 season with 14 wins and their first College Cup appearance since 1968.
