EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -- Not only does Michigan State have another Big Ten Championship banner, it also has the Big Ten Player of the Year.
Junior guard Cassius Winston won the award on Monday.
Michigan State point guard Cassius Winston has been named the Big Ten Player of the Year. It comes as no surprise after Winston led the Spartans to a share of the Big Ten title.
The junior guard beat out other stars like Purdue's Carson Edwards and Wisconsin's Ethan Happ for the award.
Winston is averaging 19 points and seven and a half assists per game. He has also been the leader for the Spartans on and off the court. Head coach Tom Izzo knows his point guard deserves the recognition.
"What's important is, are you getting better each and every day, each and every year? I think we'd all agree he's gotten better just about each and every day since he's been here and deserves the accolades that he's getting and hopefully will continue to get," Izzo said.
