Lewerke Benched For Purdue?

Various media reports Friday indicate Michigan State starting quarterback Brian Lewerke may well not start, let alone play at all, Saturday against Purdue. Lewerke is nursing a shoulder injury he suffered 13 days ago at Penn State. He struggled last Saturday playing most of the game in a 21-7 loss to Michigan. Rocky Lombardi, a redshirt freshman from Iowa, who has been on the field for 11 snaps at quarterback, may now get the starting call. MSU also likely will be without offensive lineman Matt Allen, injured against Michigan. Kickoff is noon Saturday on ESPN. Both teams have 4-3 records.
