Hornets claim pair of titles, look towards districts

HASLETT, Mich. (WILX) -- It's a conference sweep for the Hornets.

Both Williamston boys’ and girls’ hoops knocked off Haslett to claim the CAAC Red title.

"Tonight we were as locked in as I’ve ever seen us, and we have to keep doing that," said Hornets Boys' Head Coach Tom Lewis. "We have to be ready for Everett on Tuesday, we've got another league game on Friday. This is great, I’m proud of my guys, we're going to enjoy this, but we have to take it game by game."

The Hornets' first in the CAAC Red is the program's seventh straight league championship, and it was never in doubt from the tip.

"This is the first game in a while that we just picked it up and had a good lead at the start, so that's good," said Freshman Guard Mason Docks.

Just like the boys, the girls' team sits at 9-0 on the year in conference play, and just like the boys, they've been in this position before.

"We’ve won league titles and not gotten out of districts, so it's nice and it's fun, but it's not the end goal for us," said girls' coach Pete Cool.

While it's a nice win for both teams, coaches say that while they'll celebrate tonight, they're more focused on districts.
