Game of the Week: Dewitt Panthers move to 8-1

DEWITT, Mich. (WILX) -- The DeWitt Panthers played solid defensively to improve to 8-1 and share a spot at the top of the CAAC-Blue division.

DeWitt was able to create favorable matchups on both sides of the ball.

"Tonight, collectively, every kid had a really good opportunity to play at a really high level, Holt’s a very good team, and we just had things go our way," said Panther coach Bill Flannery.

The Panthers are off to their best start in nine years, but for Flannery, a new season brings plenty of unfamiliar territory.

"There's always lots of ideas and everyone's feeling great about themselves," Flannery said, "but to be 8-1 is about a team effort, and we've been fortunate to win a couple of games."

But sometimes, even the teams with the best records aren't perfect. Flannery says there's always room for improvement.

"I think we need to continue to work on moving the basketball, hitting shots when they're available, but we showed really good patience tonight and I think that will go a long way," said Flannery.

The 8-1 panthers will continue CAAC play on Tuesday when they visit Grand Ledge.
