OKEMOS, Mich. (WILX) -- At 15-0, the East Lansing girls’ basketball team has everyone hoping next year will be easier.
That most likely won't be the case; the Trojans’ reign will go at least past next year. They have no seniors.
"We’re really excited about the next couple of years and how the program will grow," said Trojans Head Coach Rob Smith.
On the boys' side, the Okemos Chiefs may have a few graduating this year, but depth is helping them stay at the top.
"It’s nice to be able to sub a couple of guys and switch everything, and then, when they go big, to have some guys that can do that too," said Jeff Wonch, the Chiefs Head Coach.
Though both teams have depth, leadership is what both coaches say is what's driving their success.
"It’s nice to have some solid leadership on the team. It's a nice group to coach, and it's exciting every day, and I get the joy of coaching them," said Wonch."
"They do a good job teaching the East Lansing way, and the process that goes into being a championship program. We have our sisters' backs, that's kind of our 'M-O,'" said Smith. "We're out there on the court, five girls playing as one. That's where we hang our hat."
