FT. LAUDERDALE, Fl. (WILX) -- No. 2 basketball recruit Vernon Carey, Jr. committed to Duke University on Thursday.

Carey, son of Vernon, who played football for the Miami Dolphins, picked the Blue Devils over Michigan State and North Carolina.

Carey would have been the third member of Michigan State's 2019 recruiting class (Malik Hall, Mark "Rocket" Watts), and the first 5-star recruit to commit to the Spartans since Miles Bridges and Jaren Jackson, Jr., who both were drafted in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft.
