UPDATE: CMU announces new women's basketball coach

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI (WILX) On Twitter Friday morning, Central Michigan University's Women's Basketball Program announced head coach Sue Guevara's retirement.

Coach Guevara is credited with making the Chippewas into a mid-major powerhouse during her tenure with the school.

She was hired by CMU in April of 2007.

Guevara has compiled a record at the school of 204 wins against 148 losses.

She has a .580 winning percentage.

Guevara began her coaching career at Saginaw Valley State University with the start of the 1982 basket\ball season.

She also was the head basketball coach for the women's program at the University of Michigan from 1996 to the end of the 2003 season.

In making the announcement, CMU congratulated "Coach G."

Coach Guevara will make her retirement announcement official at a press conference Friday afternoon, now scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the John G. Kulhavi Events Center on the campus of CMU.

The school later announced Heather Oesterle as the new coach of the Chippewas.

She has been on the coaching staff for nine seasons.
