COLUMBUS, Ohio (WILX) -- Junior guard Cassius Winston scored 25 points and junior forward Nick Ward had 21 points and eight rebounds as No. 8 Michigan State used a big second half to pull away from No. 14 Ohio State for an 86-77 win at Value City Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Michigan State, winners of eight-straight games and 13 of its last 14 overall, improves to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten, while Ohio State falls to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Michigan State outscored Ohio State, 50-34, in the second half and connected on 76.5 percent of its shots during the final 20 minutes (13-of-17), while hitting 84-6 percent of its free throws (22-of-26) in that span.
Winston scored 18 of his game-high 25 points in the second half, connecting on 8-of-12 shots from the floor, while Ward finished with 21 points and eight rebounds and senior guard Matt McQuaid had 12 points and six rebounds
Michigan State returns home to the Breslin Center on Tuesday, Jan. 8, hosting Purdue. Tipoff is slated for 9 p.m.
