LANSING, Mich. (WILX)-- Registration is open now until February 23rd to sign up for the "5 Minutes Tops" youth pitch competition. It's a "Shark Tank"-esque competition where students prepare and present business ideas to local business owners. This is the students' chance to win cash prizes in various amounts, at most $3,500, plus assistance in their business endeavor. Students have five minutes to convince the panel to buy into their idea. There are several local competitions coming up at different local schools.March 13th is the regional.
Lucas Schrauben, the Career Development Coordinator for the Eaton RESA Career Preparation Center, said, "We have the competitions this time of year, so it's right before spring break. So the students can take some of their seed funding to start their idea. We can use the next few months to kind of mentor them and then in the summer they can try to start their own job."
The growth of the event has been due to the great Career Technical Education teachers, administrators, business sponsors, and the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP).
