LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - We saw a surge of young and first time voters take to the polls Tuesday for the midterm election.
According to NextGen America, young voter turnout quadrupled in East Lansing.
In 2014, less than 250 people voted on the campus of Michigan State University.
Tuesday that same precinct saw nearly 1,000 voters.
NextGen volunteers spent the past year visiting colleges across the state, encouraging students to register to vote on issues that are important to them.
"Healthcare, education, student loan debt, and the environment. The candidates are really appealing to us and we're ready to jump into politics," said Jennifer Alberts, organizing director for NextGen Michigan.
