A woman was rescued from a pond after driving her car into the water on Monday morning, police say.

It happened around 9:20 a.m. on West Pond Road in Okemos.

The woman, who was driving a small red sedan, was in the car when it went into Walden Pond from Grand River, police say.

Police say the car was "nearly fully submerged."

Police and Fire Battalion Chief Mark Vroman told NEWS 10 that it was a "great team effort between PD and Fire."

The woman was rescued from the car by Meridian Twp. Police Chief Ken Plaga and another sergeant.

She was taken to the hospital.

No word yet on her injuries or why she drove into the pond.
