Williamston woman pleads guilty to embezzlement

WILLIAMSTON, Mich. (WILX) -- A Williamston woman has pleaded guilty to stealing money from a state agency.

Maria Louisa Mason admitted to embezzling more than $70,000 from a memorial statue fund in April 2017 when she was an executive director in the State Department of Civil Rights.

The money was to be used for a Cesar Chavez statue in Lansing.

The 81-year-old will be sentenced on Jan. 23, 2019.
