UPDATE: Power restored after widespread outage in Lansing area

According to the Lansing Board of Water and Light Facebook page, all

has been restored in the Greater Lansing Area. The post also says if you continue to experience an outage, please report it through the BWL Outage Center.


The Lansing Board of Water and Light posted the following message to their Facebook page at 12:38 PM.

"The Eckert Substation tripped offline, resulting in a power outage for approximately 25,000 BWL customers in the downtown Lansing area. Crews are working to restore power, expected within 2 hours. Motorists should treat intersections with traffic signals as a 4-way stop. We apologize for any inconvenience this outage has caused."

Multiple power outages were reported in the Lansing Board of Water and Light's coverage area early Friday afternoon.

The cause and reach of the outage are not yet known. Calls to the BWL led to a recorded message saying the BWL is experiencing problems. The BWL Web site is down as well.

Posts on the BWL Facebook page report outages in Lansing's westside neighborhood near Kalamazoo and Jenison, Washington Square downtown, Baker Street and the Colonial Village neighborhood. East Lansing police say there are outages there as well.

All intersections with the lights out should be treated as a four-way stop.

Ingham County dispatch says police are having phone problems and that people should call 911 if they can't get through on a regular line.
