Whacking their way to revitilization

By  |

The push to re-vitalize dowtown Charlotte is taking a step forward.
People took turns using a sledge hammer to hit a blighted building called "The Piece".
The 1800's era vacant building will soon be torn down to make way for a "pocket park".
It's all part of the "Charlotte Rising" campaign, which aims at creating a vibrant community.
Organizers say the new park will create a more welcoming downtown area.
The building was supposed to be torn down today, but it was put off because of a potential asbestos issue.
Organizers says demolition should happen Wednesday, or Thursday, and they're hoping to start building the park next Summer.
