LANSING, MI (WILX) -- A West Michigan fire chief was a saving grace for a newly-engaged couple.

The couple was posing for photos in Norton Shores, located south of Muskegon, when the bride-to-be's ring slipped off her finger and into Mona Lake.

After searching for the ring with no luck, the couple's wedding photographer posted their problem on Facebook. That's when Norton Shores Fire Chief offered to help the couple on his day off.

Using his wetsuit and metal detector, he was able to return the ring to the future bride.
