LANSING, MI (WILX) -- An effort to raise awareness about gun violence is being held Saturday at the State Capitol in Lansing.
"Wear Orange" events are happening around the country to highlight gun violence on June 7 and 8, 2019. (MGN)
The Michigan chapter of the Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense In America is hosting the event at 12:30 p.m. on the north lawn of the State Capitol.
Orange is the color Hadiya Pendleton's friends wore in her honor after she was shot and killed in Chicago at 15 years old, a news release said. It happened just one week after performing in President Obama's second inaugural parade in 2013.
The event is being held in hundreds of cities this weekend across the U.S.
