LANSING, MI (WILX) -- There's been an overwhelming response to Walmart's car seat recycling program.
So far about a million car seats have been turned in.
The recycling program was supposed to last through the end of the month, but the retailer is ending it Sunday, Sept. 22.
The program was only open a week, from Sept. 16 to Sept. 22.
Walmart teamed up with Terra-Cycle to host the program at nearly four thousand stores across the country.
Customers could trade in used car seats for a $30 Walmart gift card.
September is national baby safety month and Walmart is encouraging people to recycle their old car seats.
However, there is a two car seat maximum trade-in limit per household.
