They are the "superheroes" of our community.

That was the theme of Tuesday night's Capital Area United Way Volunteer Recognition Dinner at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.

The annual event celebrates those who give their time and talents to help others.

Winners are as follows:

Walter A. Campbell Award: Dorothy E. Maxwell, Max Weingar Group

Adult Volunteer Award: Shelly Zamora, volunteer at CASA for Kids, Eaton, Ingham & Barry County and Patrice Burns, volunteer at The Davies Project for Mid-Michigan Children

Youth Volunteer Award: Erykah Benson, Student Greenhouse Project

Lifetime Volunteer Award: Barbara Emmons, community volunteer

Volunteer Innovator Award: Marcus Turner, volunteer at Averill Elementary School

Business Volunteer Service Award: Jackson National Life Insurance Company
