Vacant building being used as a dump site

LANSING, MI (WILX) - A vacant building was being used as a dumpsite in south Lansing and its proximity to a busy fast food restaurant is causing complaints.

"I'm disgusted with it because when I'm going getting food, the last thing I want to see is a huge pile of trash and mattresses," said Courtney Munce, Lansing resident.

Darkon LLC recently purchased the building that has been idle since 2013.

Owners are telling News 10 they've been dealing with a few issues like squatters using the back lot to illegally park semis.

The property owner says a gate was placed to keep violators out, but it still didn't stop vandals from dumping their junk.

"I was shocked. I didn't expect it to be so much garbage. It looks like someone just dumped their whole house in there. Furniture, just a whole living room," said Molly Elenbas, Lansing resident.

The new owners are planning to revamp the building by turning it into a VA clinic next year.

As of Monday, July 15, the owners reached out to News 10 to let us know that the site has been cleaned up and gates have been installed.
