LANSING, MI (WILX) -- The Lansing Police received a call around 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, regarding a woman in distress.

It happened at the 4800 block of South Pennsylvania near an apartment building.

When police arrived they found the woman unresponsive and began first aid but she died from her injuries.

Family of the 66-year-old woman arrived on the scene and immediately rushed passed crime scene investigators to find out what happened to their loved one.

They were too shaken up to talk on camera, but Lansing Police Officers said they found her deceased and covered in blood from an apparent gunshot wound.

News 10's Cryss Walker spoke with a neighbor who was floored to learn about the woman's death.

"She seemed like a pretty nice lady. You know she was an older lady, kept mostly to herself. I saw her in passing coming in and out of her building and I'm going in and out as well. She would wave and I would wave, you know. The only thing I really observed were the presence of the police, the ambulance, the fire department, but the reason that I came out here was because I heard the sirens," Mark Young, a neighbor of the woman, said.

Police are not releasing any more details about this on-going homicide investigation at this time, but they did say that this incident is not a threat to the public.

No arrests have been made.
