LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -- A major concern over the next few days is frozen pipes.
With the inevitable about to happen for some of you, there are things you can do to help thaw them out.
If you turn on your faucet and only a trickle comes out, the pipes are likely frozen.
Keep your faucet open.
Running water through the pipe will help melt that ice.
Apply heat to the section that's frozen with an electric heating pad wrapped around it.
Hairdryers and even a towel soaked in hot water can also do the trick.
Do not use a blow torch or any open flame device.
Apply that heat until water pressure is back.
If you can't find the pipe or can't thaw it, call a licensed plumber.
If you are worried about paying your heating bill this month, there are resources to help you.
There is $50 million up for grabs through the Michigan Energy Assistance Program. You can also call 211 for help and for more information.
