Think twice before you lend your cellphone to a stranger

Think twice before letting someone you do not know use your cell phone, especially if you have a popular payment app on there.

Popular money transfer apps and services like Venmo, PayPal or Apple Pay are all attached to people’s bank accounts.

But right now, police in cities across the country are warning of a scam circulating, costing some thousands of dollars.

Here's how the scheme works: someone asks you to use your smartphone for whatever reason. That person will then use your payment app and steal your money without you even knowing.

Officials say when you're not using them, log out of the money apps.

Another thing you can do is link your credit card instead of a debit card, that way you can have more protection.
