LANSING, MI (WILX) - ScrapFest is this weekend in Old Town and the city of Lansing will be closing some streets to accommodate the event.
Turner Street, between César E. Chávez and Clinton Street, will be closed between 6:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, and 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 14.
The event is Friday, July 12, from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., and Saturday, July 13, from 12:00 p.m. – 10 p.m.
ScrapFest is a fun family-friendly event focused on repurposed materials, or scraps, used in art.
There's a competition aspect to the event where teams must pick up to 500 lbs. of metal and create a sculpture in one month.
The pieces will be on display and for sale at the festival.
Winning sculptures are to be announced on Saturday July 13 around 4:45 PM.
And 10% of the proceeds from the sale of each sculpture in the competition will go to this year's partner organization, Small Talk Children's Advocacy Center, which provides a comfortable environment for survivors of physical and sexual abuse to provide testimony during the investigation process.
