Cold weather impacts MSU sale of stadium turf

The cold weather this weekend is impacting the removal of Spartan Stadium turf.

Monday, workers were hoping to be fully involved in the removal of the stadium's natural grass surface.

MSU planned to remove the turf following this past weekend's spring football game.

However, the cold temperatures have slowed the removal.

The pieces of turf being removed need to be in good condition.

Michigan State University has been selling pieces of Spartan Stadium's turf online through the school's surplus store.

The nine-foot square sections of grass were being sold for $10 on the school's surplus store website. The sections will be approximately 18 inches by 72 inches.

The turf is described as hybrid Kentucky bluegrass.

MSU wants to transplant a new stadium turf within five days.
